Veterinary Business Management Association
- Article 1: Name and Purpose
- Section 1. The name of this organization shall be: Veterinary Business Management Association
- Section 2. The Veterinary Business Management Association will provide exposure to opportunities, current events and experiences in veterinary practice management and professional development through the interaction with various veterinary professionals.
- Article 2: Membership
- Section 1. Any student in the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU-CVM) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program (DVM) or Veterinary Technology Program (VTP) may be a member of the Veterinary Business Management Association. The Veterinary Business Management Association will not discriminate on the basis of age, class rank, color, gender, handicapper status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, weight or status as either a DVM or VTP student. Only Michigan State University students may be voting members or officers.
- Section 2. A person becomes a member of the Veterinary Business Management Association upon payment of dues which are $10 per semester or $15 for an annual membership.
- Article 3: Officers
- Section 1. The officers of the Veterinary Business Management Association will be elected to a one year term in December of each year. The offices shall consist of the following: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Marketing, Director of Technology and Veterinary Technology Program Liaison.
- Section 2. Only members in good standing may nominate, be nominated, or vote; elections shall be secret ballot and require a simple majority of members present.
- Section 3. The president shall have the following duties: responsibility for the relations between the Association and the organizations and people it interacts with. S/he presides over all the meetings, coordinates and compiles the agenda for officer meetings and retreats, helps plan meetings and events and works with the Treasurer on fundraising activities. The vice president shall plan and arrange club meeting, events and speakers and is responsible for coordinating the scholarship process. S/he will also assist the President with their duties and will fill-in for them when necessary. The secretary shall be responsible for: distributing minutes to officers and members, handling professional correspondences and maintaining email groups, membership information and registry and all paper files. S/he will also handle menu planning/food orders, organizing room clean up work and will work with the Director of Marketing in handling reservations for events and meetings. The treasurer shall be responsible for financial leadership for the Association. S/he handles and maintains accounts and budgets for the Association as a whole. S/he is responsible for management of merchandise inventory and sales. S/he works with the President, and other members, in developing and identifying fundraising activities. The Director of Marketing is responsible for facilitating communication both internally and externally including but not limited to formulating flier and email announcements, collection of reservations for events and the timely communication of reservation information to the Secretary for menu planning and other considerations. S/he will also be responsible for communication with other clubs and overseeing the organization of the upstairs bulletin board. The Director of Technology is responsible for the development and maintenance of the VBMA homepage, common drive and audio/visual arrangements at meetings and events. S/he will also acts as a liaison between the club and university technology departments. The Veterinary Technology Program Liaison position will be filled by a member of the VTP who will be responsible for representing and integrating VTP members including but not limited to recruitment of new members, marketing of meetings and events and organization of the downstairs bulletin board.
- Section 4. An officer may be removed for failing to maintain a membership in good standing, or may be removed from office at any meeting by a vote of the general membership.
- Article IV: Operating Procedures
- Section1. Meetings will be held in the Veterinary Medical Center on a variable basis. Meeting announcements will be maid available using the CVM e-mail service, the website, the club bulletin boards and printed materials including posting fliers around the MSU-CVM and direct distribution of materials to DVM and VTP student mailboxes.
- Section 2. Parliamentary procedure will be followed at all officer meetings.
- Section 3. The following shall constitute a standing committee: Vet-A-Visit and other special events on an as needed basis.
- Article V: Amendments
- Section 1. Any member in good standing may propose an amendment to this Constitution.
- Section 2. An amendment may be proposed at any meeting of the general membership or officer board.
- Section 3. An amendment may be approved by a vote of the general membership and/or a majority vote of the officer board at the meeting following the initial proposal.
